The sun is finally making a regular appearance over Columbus. For us plant parents, this is the most exciting time of the year. Spring isn't just spring, it’s the "growing season," and it is the absolute best time to level up your indoor jungle.
If you’ve been staring at your collection wondering how to take it to the next level without feeling overwhelmed, we’ve got you covered. Here is your week-by-week blueprint to expand your plant collection and turn your home into the ultimate spring sanctuary.
Before you add new life, you have to audit what you already have. Winter can be tough on plants, and not every leaf comes out looking pristine.
- The Goal: Be honest with your collection. Check for those plants that aren't quite dead, but haven't grown and are maybe struggling.
- The Action: Trim away the winter crispiness. If a plant no longer brings you joy or fits your aesthetic, move it to the "rehoming" pile. This clears physical and mental space for the growth ahead.
Why buy three new plants when you can make them for free? Week two is all about multiplication. Taking cuttings now ensures they are well-rooted and ready for soil by the time spring fully arrives.
- The Goal: Turn one plant into many!

Now that you know what’s staying and what’s growing, it’s time to look at the "architecture" of your jungle. Most people run out of floor space, but they forget about the walls!
- The Goal: Maximize your light and your square footage.
- The Action: Think vertically. Install floating shelves, hang macramé baskets, or invest in a dedicated plant rack. Group your plants into "light zones". Put your high-light plants together and your low-light plants in those tricky corners.
By week four, your space is clean, your babies are rooting, and your shelves are ready. Now comes the fun part: adding the plants.
